Our bursaries and mentoring programmes are tailor-made to each child’s musical needs. Our director Lucy will work with both student, parent and instrumental teacher to create the best possible programme for development
How your support helps
Our project Tracks helps to teach and mentor students with an interest in pop, rap, rock and other genres. We inspire young songwriters, producers, performers and artists to create and express themselves with expert help from our Tracks team.
Tracks is closely connected to our wider mentoring scheme and believes a combination of one to one and group work is essential to build confidence and further our students knowledge and understanding.
"Tenn's been my tutor this week and he's inspired me a lot. I feel comfortable with everyone here and feel like I can just be myself."
Annabella joined Sheffield Music School in 2020. She was very excited to be invited along to meet the wonderful team and play for Lucy Revis (Director of SMS) and Simon Webb (Director of BBC Philharmonic).
Annabella was thrilled to be offered a place with a bursary and was keen to study and perform with the school at the earliest opportunity. She has found Sheffield Music School to be a nurturing and welcoming environment with a relaxed and warm atmosphere. The teaching is second to none offering great expertise throughout all departments.
Despite the unprecedented circumstances throughout 2020 and up to present, Annabella has worked online every week studying theory, music listening classes, aural lessons and playing her violin with the outstanding string ensemble conducted by her violin teacher/string ensemble director Shelagh Webb.
Her knowledge and confidence has continued to grow throughout this period and she feels she’s been encouraged and supported very well. She has continued to enjoy the Zoom meetings connecting her with fellow students and teachers.
She is especially excited about working with the BBC Philharmonic throughout March and hoping to expand her knowledge further. She loves all that SMS has to offer and looks forward to many more years of study and is immensely proud to be a student here.
