Welcome to Sheffield Music School

Sheffield Music School is a registered charity in existence for over 30 years, dedicated to providing the highest quality music coaching for the talented Young Musicians of Sheffield and the surrounding area. Housed at Sharrow Primary School and Performing Arts Space, sixty students and nine staff bring musical vibrancy and excellence to Saturday mornings. With a strong focus on chamber music and solo performance, the school encourages the best from its members in a fun and informal atmosphere.

We have a very talented and diverse staff who are teachers, performers and composers in their own right with special interests varying from modern jazz to organ and choral music. We aim to develop a number of skills for the students including choral, general musicianship and aural. Junior Music School students fill in weekly listening diaries and take part in many activities such as improvisation, composition and performance.

Sheffield Music School aims to provide this service for the lowest possible cost, and offers a number of scholarships. It is our policy that nobody should be unable to attend for financial reasons. To this end, we are always looking for grants and financial support and would welcome any help.

Many of our students go on to study music at Music College or University, and we hope that all of our members carry with them a love of music throughout their lives.

March 2011 - Junior Music School Performance Class

Junior Music School held a performance class on 5th March. Here's a report by Lydia Blackburn and India Humberstone:

There were many different varieties of different pieces. Lots of jazzy pieces were played and were all enjoyed by the audience, although there were a couple of lovely sad minor pieces played and these were very emotional.

Sophie played a very advanced piano piece and everyone enjoyed this. Overall it was a good performance class and there were many brave attempts, playing difficult music. It was a big achievement by everyone who took part.
